2009 Dodge Car, Truck, Crossover and SUV: What's New?

2009 Dodge Avenger: An all-new car in 2008, the 2009 Dodge Avenger gets no major changes this year. All models get a standard sunglasses holder, premium floor mats, cabin air-filtration system, plus a trunk mat and additional acoustic insulation for a quieter cabin. The SXT and R/T models also add a leather-wrapped steering wheel, foglights and rear spoiler as standard. All Avenger R/Ts get 18-inch chrome wheels.



2009 Dodge Caliber: The 2009 Dodge Caliber receives no major changes this year. SXT models add antilock brakes and body-color door handles, while the SXT Sport also gets a standard MusicGate Power Sound Group. A 30GB hard drive for music and photos, and a navigation system with real-time traffic information have also been added to the options sheet. There are two new exterior colors: Deep Water Blue Pearl and Light Sandstone Metallic. Light Khaki Metallic and Steel Blue Metallic are no longer available.



2009 Dodge Caliber SRT4: An all-new model in 2008, the 2009 Dodge Caliber SRT4 receives no major changes this year. Sirius Satellite Radio is now standard along with an onboard computer and a 30GB hard drive for storing music and photos. Leather seats are now optional. Deep Water Blue replaces Sunburst Orange on the color palette.

2009 Dodge Challenger: The 2008 Dodge Challenger arrived in the spring of 2008 dressed in SRT8 trim only. Starting in the fall of 2008, the 2009 Dodge Challenger adds R/T and SE trim levels to complete the range. The midlevel R/T gets a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 rated at 376 horsepower and 410 pound-feet of torque when equipped with the optional six-speed manual. The numbers drop to 373 hp and 401 lb-ft when paired with the standard five-speed automatic.



The base SE is powered by a 3.5-liter V6 with 250 hp and 250 lb-ft of torque and only comes matched to a four-speed automatic. The SE rides on standard 17-inch wheels and 215/65R17 all-season tires.

A set of 18-inch wheels with 225/60R18 all-season tires is optional on the SE. The R/T gets 18-inch wheels standard, but the tires are slightly larger 235/55R18 performance tires.

A set of 20-inch wheels with 245/45R20 performance tires is optional on the R/T. Both the SE and R/T come standard with cloth interiors and an eight-way power driver seat. Leather is optional on both. Both models are available in the following colors: Bright Silver Metallic, Brilliant Black, Dark Titanium Metallic, Deep Water Blue, Inferno Red and Stone White. Hemi Orange, Tor Red and Br Blue are available on the R/T and SRT8 models only.

2009 Dodge Challenger R/T Prices

2009 Dodge Challenger SRT8: An all-new car in 2008, the Dodge Challenger SRT8 only gets minor upgrades for the 2009 model year. Most notable is the availability of a six-speed manual transmission; a five-speed automatic remains standard. A limited-slip differential is now standard along with a new 32-tooth rear hub and bearing assembly. Black hood stripes replace the previous carbon-fiber stripes. There are two new colors: High-Performance Red and B5 Blue.

2009 Dodge Charger: The 2009 Dodge Charger is carried over from last year with some minor changes. The 5.7-liter Hemi V8 is now rated at 368 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque. R/T models get a new 2.65:1 final gear ratio while all-wheel-drive models get a new 3.06:1 gear in back along with a front-axle disconnect system for improved mileage. Chargers in SE trim now come standard with aluminum wheels, a cargo net, premium floor mats and satin silver interior trim. All models also get a rear-window-mounted antenna, illuminated cupholders and a revised taillight design. Deep Water Blue replaces Steel Blue on the color chart.



2009 Dodge Charger SRT8: Other than slightly revised taillamps, the 2009 Dodge Charger SRT8 carries over unchanged from last year. The following equipment has been added as standard: dual-zone climate control, automatic headlights, one-touch up/down windows, remote start, cabin air filtration and heated front seats. Deep Water Blue is a new exterior color.

2009 Dodge Dakota: Apart from revised trim level designations, the 2009 Dodge Dakota carries over unchanged. The Dakota SXT has been dropped from the lineup along with the 2WD versions of the SLT, Sport and TRX. The base ST now has a tilt steering wheel standard, while the TRX gets standard bolstered bucket seats. The 4.7-liter V8 is now optional on Big Horn/Lone Star models. Top-of-the-line Laramie trim now includes 18-inch aluminum wheels and premium cloth bucket seats. There are three new exterior colors: Austin Tan, Deep Water Blue and Stone White.

2009 Dodge Durango: The 2009 Dodge Durango carries over from last year with few changes. A revised version of the optional 5.7-liter Hemi V8 bumps power from 330 hp to 376 while torque is up from 376 lb-ft to 401. Sirius streaming video is now packaged with the rear entertainment system, while the UConnect music hard drive now has 30GB of space. City Teal is a new exterior color.



2009 Dodge Durango Hybrid: The Dodge Durango Hybrid is an all-new vehicle for 2009. It uses a gas-electric hybrid drivetrain to deliver up to 25 percent better fuel economy than the standard Durango.

The two-mode hybrid drive system was developed as a joint venture involving BMW, Chrysler, General Motors and Mercedes-Benz. In the Durango, it pairs two electric motors with a 5.7-liter Hemi V8 for a combined output of 385 hp. The EPA estimates for the all-wheel-drive Durango Hybrid are 19 mpg city/20 mpg highway compared to 13 mpg city/17 mpg highway for the gasoline-only 4WD Durango. Available with all-wheel drive only, the Durango Hybrid can tow up to a maximum of 6,000 pounds.

2009 Dodge Grand Caravan: Fully redesigned last year, the Dodge Grand Caravan gets only minor changes for 2009. New transmission gearing improves fuel economy on models equipped with the 4.0-liter V6. The EPA estimates are now 17 mpg city and 25 mpg highway.

The brake system has been upgraded with new linings and hydraulic boost compensation for improved performance. On the safety side, there's a new blind-spot warning system and what Dodge calls its Rear Cross Path system.

The blind-spot warning system gives an audible and visual warning when another vehicle enters the van's blind spot. The Rear Cross Path system gives a similar warning if anything approaches the van from the rear. Both systems are optional on the SXT, along with rain-sensing wipers. The base SE model has been upgraded with the following standard features: cruise control, power second- and third-row vents, floor mats, body-color door handles and body-side moldings. Deep Crimson and Melbourne Green are new exterior colors.

2009 Dodge Journey: The 2009 Dodge Journey is an all-new model this year. A midsize crossover vehicle with an optional third row, the Journey rides on the platform that underpins the Dodge Avenger sedan. It's offered in three levels of trim and either front- or all-wheel drive. The base SE comes standard with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder rated at 173 hp and 166 lb-ft of torque. A four-speed automatic transmission drives the front wheels.

The midlevel SXT comes standard with a 3.5-liter V6 that delivers 235 hp and 232 lb-ft of torque through a six-speed automatic transmission. R/T trim adds leather upholstery, 19-inch wheels and a sport-tuned suspension.

All-wheel drive is optional for both the SXT and R/T. The interior boasts seating for up to seven people and a maximum cargo capacity of 67.6 cubic feet. Optional features include an onboard hard drive, dedicated iPod adapter, rearview back-up camera, Bluetooth connectivity and a rear-seat entertainment system with Sirius satellite television.

2009 Dodge Nitro: Other than a few minor suspension changes, the 2009 Dodge Nitro is a direct carryover from last year. A four-speed automatic transmission is now standard, as the six-speed manual is no longer available. Floor mats and a rear dome light are now standard on all models. Remote express-open front windows are now standard on SLT and R/T models. Deep Water Blue replaces Modern Blue on the exterior color palette.

2009 Dodge Ram: The 2009 Dodge Ram is all-new this year. In addition to a completely revised exterior design, the Ram now uses a five-link rear axle with coil springs for improved ride quality. The top-of-the-line 5.7-liter Hemi V8 has been upgraded to produce 380 hp and 404 lb-ft of torque. The midlevel 4.7-liter V8 produces 310 hp and 330 lb-ft of torque while the base 3.7-liter V6 can produce 215 hp and 235 lb-ft.

A six-speed manual is standard with the V6; a four-speed automatic is optional. Both V8s get a five-speed automatic standard. There are three cab configurations: regular, extended Quad cab and a new crew cab that replaces the previous Megacab. Regular cabs come with either a 6.5- or 8-foot bed. The Quad cab comes with the 6.5-foot bed only, while the crew cab gets a 5.5-foot bed only.

A new RamBox storage system is available on crew-cab models only and adds lockable storage bins on the outside of the bed. Interior storage bins built into the floor are another new feature on the Ram, along with optional heated and ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel and a surround-sound audio system. The 2009 Dodge Ram comes in five trim levels: ST, SLT, TRX, Sport and the top-of-the-line Laramie.

2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10: The 2009 Dodge Viper SRT-10 carries over unchanged. New six-spoke wheels are optional and there are four new exterior colors: Anaconda Green, Diamond Black, Graphite Metallic and Viper Bright White.
